Transfer project between science and art honored
In the summer of 2023, the Volksbühne of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe staged the science performances "Nerds save the world" a total of six times at several venues on the South Campus of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). In order to experimentally combine research and theater, the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and the KIT interpreted current KIT research topics in an artistic way in the production. Current KIT research in the fields of mobility, artificial intelligence, energy, climate and the environment formed the basis for the joint performance. Based on discussions with KIT scientists, a mix of video installation and performance was created together with the Badisches Staatstheater.
This extraordinary project was created on the joint initiative of Laura Bosch, Jan-Niklas Blötz and the director of the Volksbühne, Nike-Marie Steinbach. For their tireless planning and implementation of this extraordinary transfer project, Laura Bosch, Scientific Officer Transfer in the devision of Natural and Built Environment, and Jan-Niklas-Blötz, Innovation Manager for New Materials and Health Technologies at KIT, have now been honored by the KIT Freundeskreis und Fördergesellschaft e.V. for particularly outstanding achievements in 2023.
The reasons for the award emphasize the uniqueness of the project: "With 'Nerds save the world', a unique and innovative project to bridge the gap between art and science has been implemented. The performances, which are always sold out, testify to the great success and have thus brought research from KIT closer to a broad audience in a new way."
We congratulate Laura Bosch and Jan-Niklas Blötz on the honor.
