RESEARCH TO BUSINESS live: Nanoparticles in Medicine

What possibilities do nanoparticles open up in medicine? How do they change diagnostics and therapy? Researchers from KIT and the University Medical Center Göttingen will discuss this topic at the online event "RESEARCH TO BUSINESS live – Nanoparticles in Medicine" on November 8, 2022. KIT Innovation and Relations Management invites to expert lectures and panel talk with guests from CureVac AG and Genentech Inc.

Synthetic nanoparticles as a delivery system offer significant opportunities in medicine by serving as vehicles for the transport of drugs through biological barriers. Both in diagnostics and in therapy, they open up new possibilities as pioneering technology platforms for targeted and efficient treatment, especially of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. New treatment methods based on nanoparticles are conceivable, but their risks have not yet been fully assessed.

KIT scientific findings contribute to assessing the influence of particles on the living organism. Insight into current research results will be provided by our experts at the digital event on November 8 from 2 to 4 pm. At a following panel talk, researchers together with guests from CureVac AG and Genentech Inc. will discuss the question whether the future of medication lies in nanoparticles. The event will be held in English and attendance is free.

Nanoparticles for Drug Delivery

The research groups of Prof. Claus Feldmann (KIT) and Prof. Frauke Alves (University Medical Center Göttingen) will start with the topic "Nanoparticles for drug delivery". In a collaboration, they have studied the delivery of glucocorticoids against inflammation using fluorescent hybrid nanoparticles.

Biocompatibility of Nanomaterials

The Researchers Dr. Carsten Weiss und Sonja Mülhopt (both KIT) will then introduce the topic of "Biocompatibility of Nanomaterials" in medicine based on their research. This expert presentation will provide insight into research on the interaction of synthetic nanoparticles or nanostructured surfaces with living systems. One of the aspects being investigated is the toxicity on lung cells using an exposure system developed at KIT.

Panel Talk: Does the future of medication lie in nanovehicles?

Following the technical presentations, Jan Niklas-Blötz, Innovation Manager for New Materials, Climate, and Environment at KIT, will moderate the panel discussion. In addition to the presenting researchers, we welcome further discussion partners from industry:

Participate in RESEARCH TO BUSINESS live

On November 8, we invite all individuals who are actively researching and developing in the field of nanotechnology in medicine, or who would first like to explore the potential for their own company. We welcome all participants in the digital space on the wonder.me platform. Please register via the online registration form by November 2, 2022. The attendance is free of charge for you.
